How did you get started with photography

I studied Photography at College purely because I couldn't think of what else to do. I was hooked immediately but it really turned into a passion when a friend of my parents upgraded to digital and gave me his 35mm Nikon FM. It has not been far from me since, it is always handy in my bag for any moment. Since photography became a career I have obviously had to master digital and the disciplines that have become second nature from film photography have helped and shaped my work.

What do you love about your job?

I love that a photograph is the tip of an iceberg. Whether that be a wine that has been years in the making from vine to bottle, a dish that is the culmination of years of culinary training or a house that has been lovingly made into a home. I know what an honour it is to photograph these creations and allow people to feel proud of what they have done.

What are some of your favorite places in Newcastle to take photographs?

Newcastle is a lovey city which some amazing beaches. My favourite time to photograph them is early in the morning in the winter when the sea mist is rising off them and there isn't a soul around. I like it because it isn't the stereotypical Aussie beach scene.
