I started my career before I had left my senior school, working with a local newspaper before being accepted into Arts School and doing an associate diploma course in photography. Now I have over 35 years of experience in the newspaper industry, I have transitioned into a freelance photography career, bringing my seasoned skills and passion to a broader audience. My work spans a wide array of photography disciplines, with a particular love for capturing the essence of pets, the artistry of food, the intensity of news and sports, the personality in headshots and portraits, and the unique beauty of real estate.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of traveling the world, covering international news and sports events, from the grandeur of the Olympics to the vibrant spirit of local grassroots competitions. My experience as a team leader in the press industry has honed my ability to work under pressure, lead creative teams, and deliver high-quality images that tell compelling stories.

Photography isn’t just a job for me; it’s a lifelong passion. Whether I’m working with clients on personal projects or covering significant events, I approach every assignment with the same dedication and enthusiasm that has driven my career from the very beginning.

More about Scott R....

What do you love about your job?

I love the unknown. Not knowing sometimes what or where my next job could take me or who I would meet. My days are so different, they are never the same and things can change in an instant. From day to day and even hour to hour, I may not know what I will be doing next. I have really loved all the new people I have met over my years in the business. Each and every one has their own story and then it is up to me to interpret that information and then portray it in my own unique way. It's the ability to be able to instil onto others my own thoughts and ideas of a particular person, scene or an event. It may not be seen as right to some, but it's my interpretation.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I have captured world events, international sports, news, portraits, pets, commercial & food photography to name but a few. I love being able to be artistic in my work and be able to present a persons personality in wrapped up in either a single image or a few images, all telling a story. My studio work, be it still life, products or portraits also allows me to be creative, using lighting to alter a scene or person's overall emotions. Making 'something from nothing' in many cases is what I love to create as an artist. Bringing scenes to life in a creative way which create an emotion in a viewer of those images.

Awards, honors, and recognitions received

I have quite a few. From many 'best news & sports' photo awards, 'health & wellbeing awards' to my highest award of World Rural Press photo of the year in 2018. That's my only international claim to fame !!

A fun fact about this photographer

I love getting out and about in my camp trailer and right into my camp oven cooking mmmmmm !!! These days I love watching all forms of sport, having a cold beer on a hot day & listening to music (except rap and doof doof) lol
