More about Nicolas R....
What do you love about your job?
I am curious by nature; I love to connect with people and tell their stories through photography. This is what drew me to working for a newspaper. This year, I even got the chance to get a few blank pages in the paper and tell people's stories vs COVID any which way I wanted. I also love to capture action, moments gone in an instant that changes a person's life. It can be at a sports event, a live show, an election night or a personal event. Each family that comes into my studio, eache person I meet for a shoot has their own story; the fun part is showing this story in their photos in a pleasing and personnal way.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I do many types of shoot; For family portraits, I prefer to work in the family home; this puts them more at ease, and make more special memories, with meaningful backgrounds. Families just feel more connected in their home than in a studio. It is also very important to involve all members of the family to create a sense of togetherness.
I prefer to do glamour and boudoir style photos in studio because it is important to have total control of the environment: lighting, background, etc. For a standard portrait, I almost alway ask the person to choose a significant location. I can, and will, adapt to almost any location.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
No official awards yet; I would rather see a person's eye lit up when they see my photos anyway. One great pleasure I have in life is showing people how wrong they are when they tell me they don't photograph well.
A fun fact about this photographer
When I am not behind a camera, I am a translator by trade; I have been for 25 years. I am a music maniac; I'll go to heavy metal shows as well as see Country artists or Pop icons. I have traveled far and wide to see live performances.
