What do you love about your job?
I love three things about being a photographer. First, I love the variety. One day I’m literally on the track at the Churchill Downs finish line shooting the Kentucky Derby. The next day I’m shooting headshots for a local company. And the day after that I’m shooting food prepared by students graduating from a local culinary program. Each assignment is an opportunity to learn and grow. Second, I love the people I get to meet. Through my work, I’ve learned that most people are passionate about who they are and what they do. Capturing that passion is awesome. Finally, I love when I see a truly special image come up on the back of my camera. There’s no feeling like it!
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I can’t begin to count the different types of shoots I have done, but I can say for sure how I make each of them special … I work well with the person or people involved. If that person is the subject of the photograph, we talk about what we want the picture to say and then we work together to get there. If the subject is an object (food, work product, etc.), I work with the person responsible for that object so I can learn what makes it special then I focus in on how best to communicate that element.
A fun fact about this photographer
Once again, I am taking guitar lessons and this time it seems to be taking. I love the work I do so there's no stress with it, but I'm finding my guitar to be a nice creative outlet.
