More about Kevin G....
What do you love about your job?
I love capturing a moment forever. I love when parents thank me for pictures of their children. When I hear that grandparents back in Holland or parents in Brazil were thrilled with the photos, nothing could be more satisfying than knowing that my work helps people connect and knowing that it is not only over distance, but eventually will be over years and decades helping people connect to their family's and their own memories.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
For High-School "Senior" portraits I make sure the Senior is comfortable, let them collaborate on locations and props, and I encourage them to come up with creative ideas that reflect their personality. Sports photography - I have very specific ideas about where to shoot from to get the best action, what makes a "proper" sports-photography shot and I hold myself accountable for a level of attention to the action that most photographers aren't willing to give.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
I was recently fortunate enough to have a solo-exhibition of my nature, sports and photo-journalistic work at a craft-brewery in my town that offers its walls to local artists. In addition, I have had my work used by the local newspaper, my sports-photos have been featured in local high-school yearbooks and I was asked to compile my work into slideshows for year-end sports banquets.
A fun fact about this photographer
My own senior picture featured a pretty horrific sweater and, yes, a majestic haircut known as the "mullet."
