More about Kent J....
What do you love about your job?
I enjoy real estate photography because it allows me to showcase the beauty and potential of every property. Capturing the best views and angles in each room is like telling a visual story, highlighting features that make a space unique. I love the challenge of finding the perfect composition to create inviting images that resonate with viewers. It’s rewarding to know that my work helps clients envision themselves in a new home or brings out the charm of a space for potential buyers. Photography combines my passion for creativity with the satisfaction of making properties stand out.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
Most of my shoots have been focused on real estate, ranging from foreclosures to luxurious homes on sprawling acreage. I pay close attention to the staging of each room to ensure it has been perfectly prepared for photos, capturing its best features. For higher-end properties, I often incorporate twilight photography to enhance their appeal and create a warm, inviting ambiance. Drone photography is another tool I use when appropriate, offering unique perspectives and showcasing property features from angles that ground-level shots can’t achieve.
Beyond real estate, I’ve also captured portraits in natural light, often using parks or other outdoor settings to create a beautiful yet non-distracting backdrop. When the setting is significant to the photo, I carefully position the subject to make the most of the available light and composition. Additionally, I select lenses that provide the desired depth-of-field, ensuring each shot achieves the perfect balance of focus and background blur.
My travels have taken me across the country, from the majestic mountains and river gorges of the Pacific Northwest to the iconic landmarks of New York City, the sun-soaked beaches of Florida, the dramatic landscapes of the Badlands, and the breathtaking beauty of Hawaii. Journeys to England and Norway have also offered unforgettable sights to capture. When taking photos, I focus on finding the perfect angle or composition to fully immerse and engage the viewer.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
I haven't entered my photos in any award competitions, as I truly enjoy the process of capturing images for the sake of the art itself. That said, the recognition I’ve received as the exclusive photographer for several real estate agents feels like its own reward. One of my proudest moments was being the official photographer for the Field Studies Center Youth Chorale concert at Carnegie Hall in 1992—a unique honor I’ll always cherish.
