More about Kate D....
What do you love about your job?
Living is giving. I like producing professional photos that help people out. Be that food photography for a business or family photos to help capture cherished memories. I also love the artistic and creative aspects of my job.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I started my career in performance photography - I love the thrill of watching a really good performer and the skill is to wait until they move into just the right patch of light to take the photos.
I take portraits - family, maternity, babies, kids, grandparents, professionals - everyone. My preference is for capturing moments of relaxation in my subjects. Formal can be wonderful, but that moment when your smile is really real is the best.
I mostly do food photography on location in restaurants, cafes and takeaways. I get a lot of satisfaction from taking beautiful photos, often in the most unlikely places. The back of a chest freezer is a frequent location for takeaways.
A fun fact about this photographer
I used to be a zoo keeper and my background was is in zoology and animal welfare research. I ended up changing career when I injured my back. I was privileged enough to return and have great access to their chimpanzee exhibit. My chimp photos were exhibited and sold at Edinburgh Zoo - you can still probably get some of my cards in the gift shop.
