More about Joshua L....
What do you love about your job?
I love the "cinematic" photos. As someone who enjoys movies and cinematography, I love to capture as much emotion and drama as I can in a photo. Pictures are like mini-movies to me; the best ones are the ones that speak for themselves. You don't have to explain what is happening in the photo or give it any context, it speaks for itself.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I have photographed large scale events and conferences that often feature prominent figures and/or public officials, such as former Secretary of State John Kerry at the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Conference in 2015. I have done headshots for aspiring models and covered White House press conferences. I make them all special by finding unique angles in which to shoot the subject, as well as utilizing lighting and the backdrop to my advantage. Finally, I edit the photograph using Adobe Lightroom, giving the photo a more unique look by sharpening the details, cropping, and enhancing the color.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
I have yet to receive any awards for my photography, but it remains a personal and professional goal of mine. I have been blessed and privileged to receive high praise from fellow photographers and clients for my work.
A fun fact about this photographer
In my teen years and early twenties, I produced hip-hop music for friends and local artists, even earning a certification in MIDI/synthesizer production in 2007 from the prestigious Omega Recording Arts School in Rockville, MD.
