More about Dylan K....
What do you love about your job?
I love making art. I love coming back from a shoot and just relishing in all the fun and creative moments that took place while I was working. Showing the images to the clients and making them feel something from the photographs is what it's all about. I want to create images that will last my clients a lifetime or two.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I have done portraits in the past and the biggest thing for me to make them special is to just be myself and make the subject comfortable. I think being comfortable is the most important thing when photographing portraits. To make the environment comfortable I like to just chat with the subject at first and get to know them and then gradually get into shooting. For example, a family may be nervous because they haven't shot any portraits or they think their kids are being too difficult. In those situations I like to mellow the mood by asking questions unrelated to the shoot. I'll try to ask questions about their favorite things and things they enjoy to get them to think vibrantly and joyfully. Once they are in that headspace and everyone is comfortable we can get into shooting more and start with some posing but I really try to befriend first and make them feel comfortable.
