His image have appeared on nearly every continent in publications of all levels. He's covered sports of all levels from high school sports to D1 college sports, and all the way up to NBA, NFL, etc...

Although his career was mostly in sports and photojournalism, Chris has photographed a little bit of everything from studio shoots, commercial, archival, food, portraits, weddings, and real estate photography.

His training and experience included some formal training at a technical college. Beyond the college training Chris worked under a Sports Illustrated photographer as an intern covering professional soccer for a season. His mentorship and experience with sports was mostly built from that along with covering NBA and WNBA for 2 seasons for a newspaper. Chris has also participated in the Mountain Workshops, artist residencies, and many other informal training opportunities. Most of what he learned was in the field even though he was able to acquire a lot of different opportunities to learn.

More about Chris J....

What do you love about your job?

The best moments of my life have been through photography. Photography has given me access to a lot of things that wouldn't be possible in any other line of work.

I've been on the field of NFL games, on the court during NBA and WNBA games. I've been in the middle of some of the most covered events in the states history, witnessed history and victories that meant so much too so many people. I've met some of the most influential people in my personal life and I did this for work.

There's also been moments that really tested me. Some of the most emotionally and physically exhausting times. But those were some of the most incredible adventures.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

When you're in a career field like photography you do a lot of different kinds of photography. I've done events, weddings, portrait, protests, political coverage, concerts, sports, commercial, studio, archival, car, real estate, architectural, commercial, art, landscape, storm chasing, conflict, drone, wildlife, auto racing, and star photography. I've done more but that's just off the top of my head.

I want to make every shoot special. One way I try to accomplish this is to know what exactly it is I'm photographing. If it's a person I want to know more about them, what the shoot looks like, and I try to anticipate what might happen. I'll think things through and through doing this I can make sure I plan certain shots that will really stand out and might be fun for the people I'm photographing.

A fun fact about this photographer

I'm on the autism spectrum. I started photography as a hobby, but it quickly became a passion for me. With autism we obsess on different hobbies and we hyper-focus. This lets us get really good at something really fast.
