Alan Wycheck has been a professional photographer since 1986. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a photographer and was based at Little Rock, Arkansas. There, he documented military operations, presidential and dignitary visits and events and in the surrounding community. Soon after, he won the much sought after scholarship to the esteemed Newhouse school of Public Communications at Syracuse University to join a group of 25 military photographers and journalists representing all branches of service to study photojournalism. Upon completion of the program, Wycheck was given the title of "Combat Photographer" and was stationed at the Aerospace Audiovisual headquarters, Norton Air Force Base, San Bernardino, CA. He photographed events domestically and abroad until 1991 when he departed the Air Force to start his own business in his home town in Harrisburg, PA. His work turned toward commercial and editorial photography shooting for magazines, book publishers and advertisers. His work has been published in all forms of media throughout the world. He worked out of three studio locations within the harrisburg area throughout his career and is currently settled into a beautiful historic home built in 1874 along the Susquehanna River where he currently runs his studio.

More about Alan W....

What do you love about your job?

Photography has taken me to places that I would have never gone and allowed me to meet people that I would never meet. It has given me experiences most professions don't provide. I flew in the most powerful military fighter jets. I've had conversations with famous people like Jimmy Stewart, General Schwarzkopf, President Clinton, and all of Pennsylvania's Governors since I got into this profession. I flew an F-15 fighter jet over the Great Pyramids of Egypt to photograph allied military aircraft. I was in the rain forests in Costa Rica to promote their ecotourism. And the list goes on. To me, photography is not a job, it's a life style.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I have shot so many people, places and things throughout my career that it makes this question hard to pinpoint. I'v been doing this for a long time.

A fun fact about this photographer

I was the youngest and least tenured Airman to receive the prestigious scholarship to The Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University.
