More about Steven J. P....
What do you love about your job?
I love being able to connect with people from both behind the lens and through it. A great deal of my work is either making people, or the places or products they are most proud of, look good. They have to place their trust in me to do just that and it's a responsibility I relish. The gratification of seeing my work representing them is great recompense.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I've done all sorts of shoots from photographing Miss Central New York frolicking in a forest in tiara and sash, to documenting a local musical artist's first gig in a packed venue, to capturing the architecture and food at a newly renovated restaurant, to conveying the sweat and struggle of high school athletes, to a capture of a senior couple in the quiet solitude of their living room. The common thread and approach is to seek a natural authentic representation relative to each individual shoot. The true art of photography is in making people feel comfortable and forging a connection that comes out in the image.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
During my time working in the photo dept. of the city newspaper I received first place awards for my video work from the NY state Associated Press and Syracuse Press Club.
A fun fact about this photographer
I hate having my picture taken! Which is probably why I've always been on the other side of the camera for as long as I can remember. And also why I feel it's so important to put the subject at ease and maybe have a bit of fun with the whole process.
