How did you get started with photography

I've always loved looking through film prints as a kid, especially pictures of nature and landscapes. My dad enjoyed photography, so I started out with his 20D while I was still in school. I liked taking pictures of scenery, and was fascinated by the use of natural lighting. That's still true to this day, although my skillset and newer/better technology has changed my approach over the years.

What do you love about your job?

I love to meet people and find out what they do, or hear them tell a story about their life. That's my main motivator for staying in the business, in an environment where there are so many photographers out there. I also love the outdoors and nature, and photography allows me to capture the beauty of it - even when it may not necessarily be the subject I'm shooting.

What are some of your favorite places in San Diego to take photographs?

I like to shoot in a variety of places. The place may depend on the person's taste or persona, too. Some of my favorite places include the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve in Poway, Torrey Pines (north of the glider port), Los Penasquitos Canyon in Mira Mesa, and Lake Hodges in Escondido - just to name a few. Occasionally I will shoot downtown or in Coronado if I'm looking for a more urban setting.
