camera Canon EOS 100D (Rebel SL1), Canon EOS 5D Mark II

I started studying photography my first year of college, in the dark room. From there I grew my passion. I practiced on weekends, and convinced all my friends to let me make their portraits. Once I got into upper level photo classes, I started doing paid gigs for my church and for Christmas Cards. After those photos started going around, I got into family sessions, birthdays, engagements and pet sessions. Now that I have a full-time job in video production, I’m able to take photos behind the scenes, and on location. Through my job I've been able to photograph a car wash, a 7-11, and a lot of locales for social media. My passion for photography has continued to flourish throughout the years. I believe I’ll never tire of capturing emotions through my lenses; both internal and external.

camera Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Britt is a freelance photographer/videographer with five years of experience in the sports industry. Some of her highlights include covering practice and game-day photos for the Florida Gators (golf, softball, basketball, football), motocross photography, and contracted work as a travel photographer for dance competitions and rodeos. Shortly after graduating from University of Florida in 2017, Britt moved to Colorado for a change of pace and to challenge herself in a new environment. She truly enjoyed her time in the Rockies and learned a lot from each job that she had (photographer at Vail Resorts, travel photographer for Acentric Video Productions, post-production intern for Roam Media, and production assistant for 9Mind Asylum), but she felt a pull back to the ocean. Once again at home on the east coast, Britt is determined to further build her career in Jacksonville.

Beth has loved photography since she was young. She was on the yearbook staff in high school. On the weekends, she could be found wandering around the yard and house taking pictures of any and everything. She went on to study photography at the University of Miami in Florida and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Visual Communications. After she graduated, she went out into the corporate world and photography was put on the back burner. However, she recently got the chance to pursue her photography full time. For the past year, she has worked taking food and commercial photographs for local restaurants and small businesses.

How did you get started with photography

My start with photography doesn't have a romantic beginning compared to some professionals I've met in the industry. I think it's something I fell into rather than deliberately chose for myself. I remember picking up a camcorder at the age of 3, and immediately I wanted to create videos to share with those around me. Filmmaking was at the front of my mind rather than stills, and I always thought I would become a screenwriter. In the fourth grade, I would browse the "Screenwriting for Dummies" section at Barnes and Noble, then go home and try to re-write the Harry Potter movies from memory using the screenplay format. As I got older, my interests began to waver and I started to think I would become a marine biologist. However, after several moves and not living coastal for a large portion of my childhood, I became more involved with athletics and extreme sports. In my teens, I started racing motocross. Florida is a hidden Mecca for motocross tracks where professional racers train year round. Fortunately for me, I tapped into that secret and managed to befriend a RedBull athlete. Obviously, there was a vast difference in skill between the two of us. As I continued to push my limits to keep pace with a professional athlete, I ran into a a series of injuries. A few cracked ribs, a torn labrum, a sprained wrist and fractured ankle later, the realization started to sink in that I wasn't meant to be a professional athlete. Determined to figure out a way to still be involved in the industry, I picked up my mom's long-forgotten Canon Rebel. I still went to the track to ride every weekend, but I started to spend less time on the bike and more behind the lens. Five years have passed, I have finished my degree in Telecommunications/Film Production from University of Florida, and have covered various sports within the sports community.

What do you love about your job?

First and foremost, I am a story teller. It may be a bit of the stereotypical only-child syndrome, but I have always been more of a wallflower. It makes me uncomfortable to be the center of attention or, in this case, in front of the lens. While I enjoy portrait work, I specifically like to document feats of athleticism. To me, sports photography captures more than just facial expression. Athletes work tirelessly for days on end to perfect so many different aspects of their trade. To be able to freeze a moment displaying perfect form and tenacity for an athlete is very rewarding for me.

What are some of your favorite places in Jacksonville to take photographs?

I am fortunate enough to live a mile from the beach and 20 minutes from the beautiful architecture of Jacksonville, FL. As a surfer, I prefer to capture lifestyle and action photos at the beach and I feel that it is one of the better locations for portrait photography.
