Was liebst du an deinem Job?
What I love most about my job is the diversity of people I meet and the diversity of assignments that I am able to competently capture. For me, every photoshoot presents a unique opportunity to creatively and visually solve a "problem" for a client - whether it is commercial images to launch a new product, publicity photos to promote a talent; or to capture the special candid moments at an event. I love to hear about the story behind the product/ person/ event. I intentionally use that knowledge to shoot engaging images that reflect my client's story, that in turn this helps my client to connect with their customers, express their passion, or capture those special fleeting moments in their life's journey.
Welche Shootings hast du schon gemacht und wie hast du sie besonders gemacht?
My commercial product photography is diverse ranging from jewellery through to industrial equipment, from sole owner start ups through to mid-range established businesses. I understand that consistent, quality images are one of the defining factors behind the success of an e-commerce website. For example, one of my clients sells children's toys and was having trouble with one particular product that in all accounts was unappealing and ugly. They had not sold a single item of that product for 18 months. For the commercial shots, I intentionally used the toy's "ugliness" and transformed it into personality. The flaw became the toy's greatest asset. After posting the images, my client sold all their stock for that toy in a couple of months.
The majority of my portrait work has focused on professional headshots for companies, individual LinkedIn profiles and publicity shoots for consultants, authors and up and coming talent. When capturing portraits, I like to understand the key things that motivate or inspire my client and use those conversations to capture a natural but engaging expression.
My event work has covered private events (children's birthday parties) through to large corporate events (company award nights). During events, I will often wear a "cloak of invisibility" to capture the candid, and expressive moments. At other times, I will actively engage with the energy of an entire crowd to get that massive group shot. I have been known to stand on the stage with one hand pumping the air to get a crowd of 700 plus attendee to engage with the camera for a group school graduation shot; or use my "skills to herd cats" to get a spontaneous series of group shots of 80 wedding guests on a cliff face while the sun was setting behind them.
